# How do you download and install XEO Agent? > XEO Agent is a free download for macOS 11 or later on Apple Silicon and for Windows 10 or later on x64. Download the DMG or the setup EXE below, install it, and audit pages or whole sites with no account. The macOS app is signed and notarized by Apple. The Windows installer is not yet Authenticode-signed and may show a SmartScreen warning. Last updated: 2026-10-08. Drag XEO Agent into the Applications folder. 3. Open XEO Agent from Applications. The app is signed and notarized by Apple. 4. If a download warning persists, compare the installer checksum with the published value and download a fresh copy. Contact support if the warning remains. ## How do you install on Windows? 1. Run the setup file. 2. If SmartScreen shows a warning, select More info. 3. Select Run anyway. 4. If the WebView2 runtime is missing, the installer will prompt you to install it. ## How do you verify the download? Compare the SHA-256 of the file you downloaded with the value in the checksums file for that version. On macOS, run `shasum -a 256` on the DMG. On Windows, run `certutil -hashfile SHA256` in a terminal. The hashes must match exactly. ## How do updates work? You install XEO Agent once. After that, the app checks the update feed at downloads.xeoagent.com when it launches and every six hours. If a newer version exists, a one-line banner appears above the status bar with an Update now button. The app downloads the new build, verifies its signature against a public key compiled into the app, installs it, and asks you to restart. Nothing is downloaded until you click the button, and you can choose Later. Audits, history, and settings are stored separately from the app and are not touched by an update. ## What happens after you install? Open the app, type a URL, and run an audit. The app fetches the page from your computer, scores it for SEO, AEO, and GEO, and shows findings with evidence. You can audit one page or crawl a whole site. Everything is stored in a local SQLite database. What do I do? Download the current installer from xeoagent.com and compare its SHA-256 checksum with the published value. The current macOS app is signed and notarized by Apple. If the warning persists with a matching download, contact support before opening it. ### Are the downloads signed? The macOS app is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. The Windows installer is not yet Authenticode-signed and may show a SmartScreen warning. In-app update payloads for both platforms have cryptographic signatures. ### Does XEO Agent run on Intel Macs or Linux? No. This release supports Apple Silicon Macs (M1 and later) and 64-bit Windows PCs only. Intel Mac and Linux builds are not available. ### How do I update XEO Agent to a new version? Once installed, the app checks for updates when it starts and every six hours. When a new version exists, a banner appears above the status bar. Click Update now, wait for the download, then click Restart now. Your audits, history, and settings are kept. You can also click Check for updates in the status bar at any time. ### Do I need an account to use the download? No. Page audits and site crawls work with no account. ### Does the site or the app use cookies? No. xeoagent.com and the desktop app do not set cookies.
